Mathilde Reuzé

Mathilde Reuzé

Mathilde Reuzé, cello
Mathilde Reuzé was born in 2001 in Le Mans (France), into a family of musicians. The cello came to her both naturally and unexpectedly: at just three years old, after hearing a Passion by J. S. Bach in concert, she chose it as her lifelong companion.

After studying at the Conservatoire of Le Mans, then with Marie-Thérèse Grisenti at the Conservatoire of Cachan, she continued her training at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMD), where she earned her Bachelor’s degree under the guidance of Raphaël Pidoux, Eric-Maria Couturier, and Véronique Marin. She also received guidance from Jérôme Pernoo, Sol Gabetta, Maximilian Hornung, David Geringas, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, and Thomas Demenga. In 2025, she completed a Master Performance at the Hochschule für Musik Basel with Rafael Rosenfeld and Guillermo Pastrana, while deepening her chamber music training with Anna Gebert, Anton Kernjak, Jiří Němeček, Zoltán Fejérvári, and Saiko Sasaki.

A prizewinner at several international competitions, she was notably a semi-finalist at the International Bach Competition in Leipzig and the Bratislava International Competition (2024), awarded 2nd and Special Prize of the Vienna International Competition, and the Grand Prix at the Music&Star Awards.

She explores contemporary repertoire through collaborations with composers such as Jörg Widmann, Roland Moser, Thierry Escaich, Eric Lebrun, Jason Meyer, Christine Jeandroz (with whom she recorded the album Visions in 2017), and Ivane Béatrice Bellocq.

Deeply curious about musical traditions and historical practices, she has studied Indonesian gamelan, baroque dance, organ with Marianne Lévy-Noisette, and holds a degree in musicology from Sorbonne University. This path naturally led her to baroque cello, which she studied with Pauline Collignon in Pantin and then Petr Skalka in Basel, enriching her approach to historical performance.

In autumn 2025, she will join the class of Kristin von der Goltz at the Hochschule für Musik Munich for a Master’s degree in baroque cello, and will begin an Artist Diploma at the Pernoo School of Musical Performance, under Jérôme Pernoo’s mentorship. She is also a member of the new « Promotion Schubert » at the Jaroussky Academy, where she benefits from the guidance of Anne Gastinel. Supported by the Cantilena Foundation, she made her solo debut with the Kammerorchester Basel in 2025, performing Haydn’s C major Cello Concerto.

She plays on a cello by Paolo Antonio Testore from 1731, generously loaned by an anonymous patron.

“Here is a musician whose intelligence shapes a luminous, interior and deeply sincere interpretation. The emotion emanating from the text flows naturally through her sensitivity to reach our own hearts.”Jérôme Pernoo, cellist

“Mathilde is a wonderfully sensitive musician who touches the audience with her beautiful sound. She dares to be vulnerable and connect with her listener emotionally.”Anna Gebert, violinist and teacher at the University of Arts in Zürich (ZHdK) and the Hochschule für Musik Basel

“Like a great painter in front of her canvas, Mathilde Reuzé gives life to the works she interprets with her dazzling, youthful energy, and the subtle colours of her playing far beyond her age.”Jason Meyer, composer and former concertmaster of the Opera of Boston
