Sencheng Zhang, piano
Born in 2010, Sencheng Zhang began piano studies at the age of three under the guidance of his mother. By the age of ten, he had already studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Professor Matti Raekallio, and since the age of thirteen, he has been under the tutelage of Professor Soyeon Kate Lee at Juilliard Pre-College — a teacher whose guidance continues to play a decisive role in his artistic development.
A young pianist of remarkable sensitivity and command, Sencheng has performed twice at Carnegie Hall and earned the title of Young Scholar of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation. He is also a contracted Young Performing Artist with GOCAA. At just nine years old, he was signed to KNS Classical, becoming one of the label’s youngest artists.
Zhang has received over 30 top prizes in international competitions, including First Prize at the 15th Hartford Chopin International Piano Competition (USA), the JUNIOR SECTION – CATEGORY D ABSOLUTE AWARD at the 5th WPTA Finland International Piano Competition, and First Place at the American Protégé International Concerto Competition 2023. These accolades have led to performances with prestigious orchestras such as the Wuhan Philharmonic, the Gubernsky Symphony Orchestra of Russia, and the Cross-Strait Arts Youth United Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to solo and concerto performances in the United States, China, Taiwan, and Russia, Zhang has been invited to major international festivals including Aspen and Interlochen, both of which granted him full scholarships. His artistry has been featured on Interlochen Public Radio, and he was recently appointed “Juyongguan Cultural Communication Ambassador” by Beijing’s Changping District.
Sencheng Zhang’s musical journey continues to evolve through his dedication to both performance and study, with his current work reflecting a rare combination of technical assurance, expressive depth, and intellectual curiosity beyond his years.
