António Saiote
António Saiote, clarinet
Born in Loures, Portugal, António Saiote is an artist and educator recognised worldwide.
António studied as a fellow of the Gulbenkian Foundation in Paris with Guy Deplus and Jacques Lancelot and in Munich with Gerd Starke, where he obtained the Meisterdiplom from the Hochschule de Munique with distinction.
He pursued a Post-Graduation in Contemporary Music at the University of Alcalá de Henares in Spain with Artur Tamayo (assistant to Pierre Boulez) and Traditional Repertoire and Conducting in England with Georges Hurst (a favoured student of Pierre Monteux) and Musical Interpretation with Jordi Mora, assistant to Sérgio Celibidache. In addition, António obtained an MPhil in Orchestra Conducting from the University of Sheffield.
As a soloist, he has performed with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, Porto Classical Orchestra, Régie Symphony, Lisbon and Porto Radio Orchestras, São Paulo, Shanghai, Beiras Philharmonic, North Orchestra, Algarve Symphony Orchestra, and Zurich Symphony Orchestra. He has been a guest soloist at world congresses in the USA, Belgium, France, Sweden, Canada, Japan, Spain, and Italy. In addition, he has performed at the Festivals of Sintra, Estoril, Nancy, Shanghai, Macau, Rabat, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Caracas, São José, Santos, Lima, Yangi, Musicalta, Oviedo, Guimarães, Aveiro, Vila Real, Póvoa de Varzim, Paços de Brandão, Espinho, Algarve, Madeira, Azores, Folle Journée (CCB), Camerino, Atri, and Porto Alegre.
Since 1998, he has developed a fruitful parallel conducting career, directing all Portuguese orchestras and orchestras in Spain, Venezuela, France, and Germany. In addition, he has conducted operas such as O Amor Industrioso by Sousa Carvalho, Il Boticário by Haydn, Amor de Perdição by João Arroyo, Kleine Mahagony and The Seven Deadly Sins by Kurt Weill, O Doido e a Morte by Alexandre Delgado, Pierrot Lunaire by Schoenberg, Cosi Fan Tutte, Don Giovanni, and The Magic Flute by Mozart, and A Hora Espanhola by Ravel.
He is the principal conductor of the ESMAE Symphony Orchestra.
