DONATELLO GIAMBERSIO, piano
Born in Potenza in 1993, Donatello Giambersio began engaging in music from an early age but started academic studies of the piano in 2010 under the guidance of Simone Gragnani. He completed his classical training with honors at the Potenza Conservatory “Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa”, studying with masters such as Gabriele Baldocci, Michele D’Ambrosio, and Marco Schiavo.

He has participated in various master-classes for piano refinement with internationally renowned pianists including Aldo Ciccolini, Benedetto Lupo, Pietro de Maria, Adolfo Barabino, Nina Tichman, Vincenzo Maltempo, Olga Zdorenko, and Sergio De Simone.

In 2017, he performed and recorded live Mozart’s Concerto K467 with unpublished cadenzas at the Lviv Philharmonic Hall with the Lemberg Sinfonietta of Lviv (Ukraine), and the following year in Lviv, he played Chopin’s Concerto Op. 11 with the KLK Symphony Orchestra.

Since his teenage years, he has nurtured a passion for jazz, studying with Nico Marziliano, Claudio Filippini, and regularly playing as a soloist or with various groups – from duos to big bands – both in Italy and abroad. He has attended jazz masterclasses and advanced courses with Fred Hersch, Stjepko Gut, and Benny Bennak III. In February 2020, he obtained a second-level specialized degree in jazz piano with honors and special mention, presenting jazz trio arrangements of music by the classical Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona. A recording of this project with Tommaso Scannapieco (bass) and Leonardo De Lorenzo (drums) is set to be released soon.

A highly appreciated pianist and keyboardist both in the recording studio and live, he has collaborated in the pop sphere with internationally renowned musicians like Joe Amoruso, Tony Esposito, Massimo Moriconi, and Daniele Sepe.

As a musician with eclectic training, knowledgeable in jazz language and a sensitive interpreter of the classical repertoire, he offers a unique musical experience in concerts, capable of intriguing any type of audience. Since 2022, he has been a piano teacher at the classical music department of the Potenza Conservatory “Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa” and actively collaborates as both an educator and an artist with the conservatory’s jazz department.

“Donatello Giambersio performed Chopin’s Concerto Op.11 in an intimate, sophisticated way, with a delicate and song-like timbre, both sweet and intense at the same time. That’s Donatello, a humble person, an all-round musician, from Lucania, authentic, true….” – Olga Zdorenko, pianist

“Donatello possesses an extraordinary talent as well as a remarkable technical mastery combined with a sober and refined musical sense.” – Marco Schiavo, pianist/artistic director of the Berliner Symphoniker
