Jung-Yeon Yim

A national winner of the 2016 Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Piano Competition, Dr. Jung-Yeon Yim was born in Seoul, Korea.

A pianist who “handles technical difficulties brilliantly” (Daily Breeze), Dr. Yim has performed extensively as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. She has performed with the Colburn Orchestra, Torrance Symphony, and the Southwestern Music Festival Orchestra. She has also performed and participated in international music festivals such as the Banff Music Festival, the Orford Music Festival, Internationaler Klaviersommer Bad Bertrich and the Vianden Music Festival.

In addition to her activities as a soloist, she has appeared at the Manchester Music Festival and the Colburn Chamber Music Society as a chamber musician. She has also performed in master classes with Richard Goode, Leon Fleisher, Robert Levin, and Menahem Pressler.

Dr. Yim won numerous national and international competitions including Music and Stars Awards, Odin International Competition, New York International Competition, Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, and Torrance Symphony competition among others.

Dr. Yim received her Bachelor’s degree from the Colburn School Conservatory of Music, her Master’s degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and her Doctoral degree at the University of Maryland. Alongside her performing career, Dr. Yim was employed as an instructor at the University of Maryland. She is currently serving as faculty at Levine Music in Washington D.C.

Yim handled the technical and rhythmical difficulties brilliantly and had a strong, sensuous feel for the dreamy and lyrical passages.  -Daily Breeze
