Oscar Macchioni, piano
Oscar Macchioni is an International Steinway Artist, acclaimed as a solo and collaborative pianist, educator, author, and lecturer. A native of Argentina, he has performed throughout the Americas and Europe, including appearances at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Columbia University’s Teachers College, St. Martin-in-the-Fields and St. James’s Piccadilly in London, and the National Conservatory of Argentina. His performance in the renowned Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series at the Chicago Cultural Center was broadcast nationally on radio and television.
Macchioni’s discography reflects his commitment to distinctive and eclectic repertoire. His recordings include Mostly Tangos: Piano Music from the Americas (Eroica Classical Recordings), Latin-American Duos, and Piazzolla da Camera (Centaur Records). This latest recording is devoted to the early piano works of Karol Szymanowski, continuing his commitment to bringing historically significant yet underrepresented repertoire to contemporary audiences.
An internationally recognized pedagogue, Dr. Macchioni has presented masterclasses, lecture-recitals, and keynote addresses for the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA), the World Piano Conference, MTNA, the Frances Clark Center, and leading conservatories and universities in Europe and the Americas. His presentations have received international honors, including the Outstanding Musical Presentation Award at the Second International Vernacular Conference (Mexico) and the Diploma of Excellence from the World Piano Conference.
He is the author of The Tango in American Piano Music, the inaugural volume of the College Music Society’s Cultural Expressions in Music series. His writings have appeared in American Music Teacher, Piano Pedagogy Forum, Piano Inspires, and Professional Piano (EPTA-UK). A frequent adjudicator at international competitions, he is Founder and Artistic Director of the Borderland Chopin International Competition and Festival.
Dr. Macchioni holds degrees from the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán, the Kraków Academy of Music, Louisiana State University, and the University of Arizona. He is a tenured Associate Professor of Piano Pedagogy and Chair of the Division of Keyboard Studies at the University of North Texas College of Music.
