“Chiaroscuro”: A Journey Through Light and Darkness with Bogdan Dugalić
KNS Classical is proud to present Chiaroscuro, a compelling new recording by Serbian pianist Bogdan Dugalić, winner of the Santa Cecilia International Piano Competition 2025 and one of the most exciting young artists of his generation.
Conceived as a journey through contrasting emotional and musical landscapes, Chiaroscuro explores the interplay between light and shadow, elegance and turbulence, celebration and introspection. The programme begins with two of Mozart’s graceful Contredanses and the deeply reflective Rondo in A minor, K. 511, a work whose restrained melancholy reveals one of the composer’s most intimate voices.
At the centre of the album are Victor Macedo Pinto’s rarely recorded Três Homenagens, three concise but evocative tributes that bring colour, atmosphere and a distinctive Portuguese character to the programme. Their subtle writing forms a bridge between Mozart’s introspection and the dramatic intensity that follows.
The second half of the recording is devoted to two monumental Romantic masterpieces. Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor unfolds as a powerful narrative culminating in the celebrated Funeral March, while Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz No. 1 brings the programme to a dazzling conclusion, transforming virtuosity into theatre and pushing the music towards a state suspended between triumph and chaos.
Born in 2003, Bogdan Dugalić has already appeared in major halls including the Berliner Philharmonie, Mariinsky Concert Hall, Casa da Música and the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. Recent achievements include First Prize, Audience Award and the IGNM Special Award at the 2026 International Mozart Competition in Salzburg, following his First Prize victory at the Santa Cecilia Piano Competition in 2025.
With Chiaroscuro, Dugalić presents a programme of remarkable coherence and imagination, inviting listeners into a world where brilliance and introspection coexist, and where every work contributes to a larger musical narrative.
