Brilliant Premiere of Carles & Sofia Piano Duo at the Auditori de Barcelona

On Sunday, November 26th, the Barcelona Auditorium and the attending audience witnessed the world premiere of “Three Songs for Alicia de Larrocha” by Concepció Ramió, performed by the Carles & Sofia piano duo. The brilliant performance by the duo took place within the framework of a tribute to the great Spanish pianist, featuring several pianists, including Josep Maria Colom and Marco Mezquida.

The premiered piece, in line with the creativity and uniqueness that characterizes the most internationally renowned Spanish duo, was a special commission by the artists to the composer for this special occasion: “We thought it would be a way for this tribute we are paying now to our beloved Alicia de Larrocha, who had been one of our role models, to endure over time and remain forever in the form of a work dedicated to her,” stated the artists.

During the Auditorium concert, “the kings of the four hands” (as described by New York critics) showcased their sound quality, expressiveness, virtuosity, and creativity, with moments of high emotional intensity. The premiere was warmly received.

Carles and Sofia, who regularly perform in venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berliner Konzerthaus, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, or the Gasteig in Munich, intend to include these “Three Songs for Alicia de Larrocha” in their upcoming concerts.

In the coming year 2024, in addition to their usual concerts throughout Europe, they are planning to perform in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, China, Chile, Peru, Brazil, and the United States. As tireless workers, they also have recording commitments to further enrich their extensive discography.

As Steinway Artists, Carles & Sofía piano duo have become a reference in the international piano world. Recognized and respected by both the public and critics, they have received various awards for their career, such as the Gold Star for Professional Excellence, the Gold Medal for Merit in Work, the European Gold Cross, and an honorary distinction from UNICEF for their humanitarian work.
