Bellini’s Norma Reimagined at the Piano with Jukung Lim
Winner of the Victory Award at the Carles & Sofia International Piano Competition, South Korean pianist Jukung Lim presents Norma, a recital that brings together works spanning the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods, united by a shared sense of lyricism, elegance and expressive imagination.
The album takes its title from Liszt’s monumental Réminiscences de Norma, a dazzling paraphrase based on Bellini’s celebrated opera. Alongside this cornerstone of the programme, Lim pairs two sparkling sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti with Haydn’s Piano Sonata in E minor, a work that combines classical balance with remarkable emotional depth. The recording concludes with Rachmaninoff’s beloved transcriptions of Kreisler’s Liebesleid and Liebesfreud, bringing warmth and charm to the recital’s final pages.
Having begun her musical studies at Hanyang University in Seoul before continuing her education in Germany, Jukung Lim is currently pursuing the Solistische Ausbildung programme at the Musikhochschule Münster. A prizewinner of several international competitions, she has developed a repertoire ranging from Scarlatti to Rachmaninoff, always seeking to respect the unique character of each composer while shaping a clear and personal musical narrative.
With Norma, Jukung Lim offers a thoughtfully curated programme that celebrates the expressive possibilities of the piano, from the refinement of the Classical tradition to the grandeur of the Romantic concert stage. Do not miss it on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and YouTube.
