KNS Classical presents “Memórias”: António Saiote Revisits a Lifetime in Music

“Memórias“, the new recording by renowned Portuguese clarinettist António Saiote, an album shaped by the music, encounters and experiences that have accompanied him throughout his extensive international career.

The recording opens with Armando Mota’s Concerto for Clarinet and String Orchestra, Op. 18 No. 1, a work composed especially for Saiote and dedicated to him. From there, Memórias takes a more personal path, bringing together Portuguese melodies and music from different traditions that have remained part of the clarinettist’s musical memory over the years.

The programme ranges from Canção do Mar, Sol de Inverno and Vocês Sabem Lá to Morricone’s celebrated theme from Cinema Paradiso, Jobim’s Luíza and Wave, and a selection of boleros. New arrangements by Artur Caldeira, Pedro Ramos and Daniel Paredes give these familiar melodies a distinctive setting, with the Cascais and Oeiras Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Nikolay Lalov, among the musicians joining Saiote on the recording.

An internationally recognised soloist, conductor and educator, António Saiote has performed with orchestras and at festivals around the world, while developing a parallel conducting career since 1998.

More than a retrospective, Memories is a personal musical portrait: a collection of works connected by remembrance, affection and a lifetime devoted to music.

You can now listen to the exceptional recording on Amazon Music, iTunes and YouTube.
