Music, Memory and New Perspectives: Duo Temayrah’s “The Parting Glass”
The Parting Glass is the new release on KNS Classical by Duo Temayrah, formed by internationally acclaimed violinist Farran Sylvan James and classical guitarist Laura Young. The album brings together works spanning different centuries and musical traditions, highlighting the expressive possibilities of this unusual instrumental partnership.
The programme features Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances, Joseph Achron’s Hebrew Melody, and Arvo Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel and Fratres, alongside works created especially for the duo. These include Apostolos Paraskevas’s A Simple Life and Some Tea Please and Michael Doherty’s arrangements of the Celtic songs My Lagan Love and The Parting Glass.
The title carries a deeply personal meaning. Having both experienced the loss of their parents during the preparation of the recording, the two musicians dedicate the album to their memory, giving this musical project a particularly moving significance.
Both artists have established distinguished international careers. Farran Sylvan James has performed at prestigious venues including the Musikverein and Wigmore Hall, while Laura Young, professor at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, is widely recognised for her commitment to expanding the classical guitar repertoire.
Combining established masterpieces, contemporary compositions and personal remembrance, The Parting Glass offers a distinctive perspective on the dialogue between violin and guitar.
